My brother, Taro Johnson Jr., was homeless from 1988 to 1994. His journey inspires me to give to Empower Series. He is my proof that everyone can thrive and realize their vision. When my sister and I found Taro in a hospital battling for his life, he told us that he wanted to get married and have children.

During the next 12 months, he had HOPE that his vision would come true, was INSPIRED to take actions on his ideas, was EDUCATED to overcome his addictive behaviors and was CONNECTED to RESOURCES to help him take steps towards his goals. In 1995, he married and adopted two children who are now a senior and sophomore at the University of North Texas. He believed in his vision when his present circumstances were vastly different than the life he envisioned. He kept the faith, had hope, took action, educated himself and got connected to resources to help him reach his goals.
